Some memories of a happy day!
This week in Grade 4
In order to find out about the student's holidays we did some "visible thinking" by using imagery, colours or a word. Each student picked one way to visibly express themselves, shared with a friend and then with the class. A few examples of what the students drew, coloured or wrote were; a kangaroo because "it seemed as if we hopped over the days-they went very fast", a snake because a "it was very long and my vacation felt as if it would never end", yellow- because "we were in a very sunny place", green because "I went swimming and everything felt fresh", "beautiful" was the park I visited. Even though the SLC is next month, the ESL students are preparing two games to play with their parents. One group is doing an on line interactive game that they will play with their parents called Jeopardy. This has two purposes. Firstly, it is a review of what the students have been learning in either their homerooms or in the ESL classroom. Secondly, it is a fun way to practice their English. A second group is creating a past tense board game. This will review past tense and procedural writing (instructions). There is also an element of spelling involved. Be prepared to be challenged either way! Unit of Inquiry
Central Idea: Writing conveys meaning. Lines of Inquiry
This Week in G4 (9-13 March) The G4s have Published their narrative using a Google slide program adding colourful images to match and enhance their story. Afterwards, they reflected on their writing using a 6 traits rubric. Using De Bono hats as a prompt, the G4s gave feedback about their narrative and answers to other questions related to their learning in the ESL classroom.
