Aoi's mom came in yesterday and took these pictures. Sadly, Elena and Taichi will not be with us next year.
.Connecting to their last UOI, Sharing the planet, the ESL students will become a part of Ms Koo's assembly by doing a reader's theatre about the water cycle. Here they are practising their parts and making their headbands. I have just added a picture from the actual Assembly, last Friday. Well done G3! For a video of the ir performance go to Ms Koo's class blog.
The Grade 3s were learning how to find synonyms of common words using a Thesaurus. This will assist them when they have to put their research findings into their own words and , in addition, a great way to build vocabulary. Some were already incorporating new words into their narratives.
Using words found in the Thesaurus, the students changed highlighted words for new words to make their sentence more interesting. Here is an example.
This week, the students were busy writing narratives. However, we paused for mini lessons on past tense verbs to help with their revisions. In one lesson, the students had to sort past tense verbs into different categories.
The students used poetry to to write about and reflect on what they had seen
using Haiku, Acrostic and Concrete poems. The students have written Haiku, Concrete and Acrostic poems so far. We will do Cinquaine poems, as well. In addition to poetry, we are learning how to write narratives. Below is a picture of our ESL bulletin board which has a sampling of poems.
The students created a mind map, modeled after the teacher's, to help recount their December vacation. Once they were finished they presented it in front of their class.
